Containing some of the most welcoming and physically enormous people in the world, Fiji and Tonga present themselves as ideal locations to get stuck in from a sports development angle.
Based around Suva in Fiji, and Nuku'alofa in Tonga, Sportventurer provides opportunities to join a team sports coaching projects, or gain teaching and medical experience through Mad’s Gap Jobs.

Tonga: Land before Time
Rugby is the number one game played by high school students in Tonga but it is not only at First team level that the competition is taken seriously and you will definitely enjoy watching and coaching boys from the ages of 11 up to 18, most probably discovering a host of new Lomus as you go along. You can also play train and play for a local side.
Teaching can be daunting, especially in Tonga where the average twelve year old is probably twice your size! Nevertheless, it is a highly rewarding job and anything you do to improve the students' level of English will be greatly appreciated by your fellow colleagues.
Tonga is also a great place to travel to for your elective as its hospitals are in need of voluntary staff from overseas and you will also get the opportunity of working on a beautiful, remote Pacific island. Because the hospitals in Tonga, as in many third-world countries, are generally under-staffed, whilst working there you will be given much more responsibility than you could expect from a similar placement in the developed world - from delivering babies to helping with operations!
Fiji: Bring on the BULA
Rugby is the national sport of Fiji and the passion of the population for the game is evident in all walks of life on the Islands, the game is played with a flair and passion that will be a truly unique experience to any rugby lover having grown up playing the game in the northern hemisphere. Sportventurer works with teams and communities where the opportunity to play and be trained by coaches would not normally be there. You will be training junior teams in some of the 25 clubs there are in and around Suva, Fiji's cosmopolitan capital.
Hockey has been played since the 1930s in Fiji and the sport is run by a dedicated group of volunteers who are at this particular point are embarking on an ambitious program to take the sport to new heights not just in the region but internationally.

Netball is also fast on the increase in popularity. Our projects in Fiji provide the perfect opportunity to get under the skin of the country and get stuck in at a junior development level. Moreover you'll have a great chance to play and, most importantly, hang out with the locals.

Based in the lush Volta Region of Ghana, and at a football academy at the source of the Nile in Uganda, our African sports projects are demanding in terms not only of the heat but also the on-pitch talent.
